Noteput music table plays the notes as you lay them down (video)
Written by Admin on February 18, 2010 – 4:30 am -Finally we get the chance to literally lay a track down. The Noteput interactive music table was concocted by a pair of German design students back in October of last year, but watching it in action is still a mesmerizing experience. Employing a simple camera beneath the surface, the table can tell what notes you’re placing upon it and play them back — individually when you position them or as a group once you hit the big play button. The coolest feature for us is the ability to loop playback and replace notes on the fly. It’s like being a really old school kind of a DJ. Click past the break to see what we mean. Read more »

Hands-on with TAT’s dual-screen phone concept and augmented reality app
Written by Admin on February 16, 2010 – 11:30 pm -
What, you thought Home was the only project in the pipeline for these guys? The mobile UI experts at Sweden’s TAT are in the house at MWC this week showing off a couple other nifty developments that are keeping them busy these days: a dual-screen UI concept utilizing TI’s next-gen hardware, and an app that makes good on a concept it had demoed before. First up, they’ve been using a TI Blaze to demonstrate their vision of a phone with two displays, likely in a slider configuration (in fact, they showed a Droid to represent how they think the form factor could work) with a screen where you’d normally expect they physical QWERTY keyboard to be. It’s slick and wicked smooth on the brutally powerful OMAP4 core, but realistically, this is something unusual enough so that we’d need to play with a unit for a good, long while before drawing any usability conclusions. TAT believes we could see devices with this kind of setup by years’ end, but we don’t know what carriers, manufacturer, or time frames would be involved at this point.

Analog Tweet-O-Meter shows city-specific Twitter activity the old fashioned way
Written by Admin on February 16, 2010 – 4:30 am -Never mind keeping track of how many gold medals Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Monaco rack up during the Winter Olympics; the real nerds are watching to see exactly how many tweets are being pushed out per minute from a smattering of cities around the world. CASA’s Tweet-O-Meter has been running on a webpage for awhile now, but frankly, the novelty tends to wear quickly. These, however, are far more tempting to the retinas. What you’re looking at above are a few analog Tweet-O-Meters, which do exactly what you think they do: showcase the amount of tweets that are leaving New York, London and Paris at any given time by moving a needle within a conventional gauge. Head on past the break for a video, and be sure to express your reaction on your favorite up-and-coming social networking site.

Barbie’s slides into the cubical, becomes a computer software engineer
Written by Admin on February 14, 2010 – 11:30 pm -
It only took 126 careers — the first one being a soulless teen model — for Barbie to land a job as a computer software engineer. All we know now is she has a dual monitor set up and a picture of Ken at her cubicle. Oh, and she uses Linux on the world’s smallest netbook.

Intel’s ‘Huron River’ 32nm laptop platform to pack WiMAX in 2011
Written by Admin on February 14, 2010 – 4:30 am -It’s not easy to be a buyer of computers with all these technology roadmaps flying about, but in case you’re brave enough to peer into the future, Fudzilla has word on Intel’s upcoming laptop chips. The “Huron River” platform will replace Calpella (the current crop of mobile chipsets), and continue Intel’s fine work with WiMAX and WiFi integration, in addition to new Intel Bluetooth connectivity and that crowd-favored Intel Wireless Display. The platform will be powered by the new Sandy Bridge 32nm processor, a followup to Nehalem’s Core i Series of chips. We should be seeing this in Q1 2011, which will probably be minutes after Apple finally decides to upgrade to Core i7. Read more »
