JVC Picsio GC-FM1 video camera flips out for its debut

Written by Admin on September 25, 2009 – 1:30 pm -

Sure, JVC’s new Picsio GC-FM1 pocket video camera has the specs to complete with the likes of Flip Video’s Ultra HD and other similar offerings (1080p video, 8-megapixel stills, a 2-inch LCD, and HDMI out), but it also has a little something extra, something rarely seen in the world of anthropomorphized products since they heyday of the California Raisins: showmanship. Still no word on a North American appearance just yet, unfortunately but it looks like the camera will run around ¥20,000 (or about $220) when it hits Japan by the end of the month. In the meantime, we’re sure the video after the break will more than tide you over.

eviGroup’s Android-based Wallet MID debuts in France (avec video)

Written by Admin on September 23, 2009 – 1:30 pm -

Haven’t found a tablet or MID to your liking just yet? Then you may just want to wait another 24 hours, ’cause that’s about the rate they seem to be cropping up these days. This latest one comes from France’s eviGroup, and distinguishes itself somewhat by using Android for an OS, although there doesn’t appear to be any UI customizations to speak of. Otherwise, it looks like this “Wallet” will be able to more hold its own, if not completely stand out form the pack, with it packing a 5-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 8GB of internal memory, a miniSD card slot for further expansion, an integrated digital camera, and the trifecta of built-in WiFi, GPS and 3G. Still no word on a release over here, but the folks at eviGroup are promising to launch it in Europe at the “beginning of 2010″ for €300 (or about $440), and they’ve kindly gone ahead and put together a thorough video overview that you can watch right now (after the break).

Wii price drop confirmed: $199 starting this weekend

Written by Admin on September 22, 2009 – 10:30 pm -

The rumors were true, and Nintendo’s knight in shining armor is finally about to see its first-ever price drop. For nearly three years now, the console has sold briskly at $249.99, but beginning on September 27th at Best Buy (and everywhere else, naturally), the happy-go-lucky machine will be offered for just $199.99. Interestingly, it appears that suits at BB expect Nintendo to make an official announcement on the drop this Friday, yet retail stores won’t begin selling at the discounted rate until Sunday. Something tells us that won’t go over well, but we guess we’ve but a few days left ’til we find out exactly how the Big N plans to play this.

LG introduces XPION X30 Ion-based nettop

Written by Admin on September 17, 2009 – 10:30 pm -

Apparently not content to let ASUS have all the fun, LG’s just announced the XPION X30, its first Ion-based nettop. This little fella features an Atom N230 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, and ships with Windows Vista (for the time being, at least). Aside from sporting six (count ‘em!) USB ports, it weighs in at a mere 2.4 lbs, draws just 40 watts of power, and can be VESA mounted to the back of your LCD. But never mind all that — as long is it allows us to stream American Ninja from Netflix with minimal fuss we’re happy. Debuts tomorrow in Korea.

Written by Admin on September 17, 2009 – 3:30 am -

In the never ending quest to capitalize on the book metaphor, we bring you the WIDEBOOK from LG. It’s wide see, 16:9 wide for what LG call’s a cinematic experience. Oh, just you never mind that cinematic typically refers to 21:9 — this is marketing-speak, not science. Bloodbot draws blood, inspires fear

Written by Admin on September 16, 2009 – 1:30 pm -

We’ve seen our fair share of scary robots in these parts, and we’re not going to mince words here: there is no way we are going anywhere near one armed with a hypodermic needle. And we sure as hell aren’t going to sit still and let it draw blood! Currently being developed by a team at Imperial College in London, the Bloodbot is designed to probe your arm for the presence of a vein, stick you with the needle, puncture the vein, and then stop short of rupture. The system, which has thus far only been tested on one patient (sounds like we’re not the only ones with reservations regarding the device) has been accurate about 78 percent of the time, meaning it only resulted in screaming fits 22 percent of the time — unlike your friendly neighborhood nurse or medical technician, who is accurate nearly 100 percent of the time (and still inspires the occasional fit, but that’s another story).
