HP unveils Mini 1101, Mini 110 XP / Mi editions with optional HD video accelerator
Written by Admin on May 26, 2009 – 10:30 pm -
HP’s got more additions to its Mini netbook lineup coming your way with the 1101 and 110 XP / Mi. All three models sport a 10.1-inch widescreen LED, autosync software for easier connectivity to your primary PC, and the standard 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 / 1.66GHz N280 processor options with GMA 950 graphics, VGA output, 3 or 6 cell batteries, and 802.11b/g. The Mini 110 XP edition takes the trend even further with — and we’re sure you’re surprised here — 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD or 32GB SSD, as well as optional WWAN and a Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator, which HP claims will let you watch 1080p video smoothly — yeah, we’ll believe it when we see it. Those who go with the company’s Linux-based pet Mi can bump up to 250GB HDD and 2GB memory. As for the Mini 1101, it looks like it’s basically the business-centric 110 with XP and Vista as your OS choices and no apparent video enhancer. As for pricing and availability, the Mini 1101 is coming at ya on June 1st with a base price of $329, while Mini 110 will follow shortly after in black swirl on June 10th, and white swirl / pink chic on July 8th. Those will start at $279 with Mi and $329 if you want Windows XP instead.

Intel said to slip Core i5 platform to September, competition needed
Written by Admin on May 26, 2009 – 3:30 am -Want a good example of why Intel — or we, the consumer — needs a strong competitor? DigiTimes‘ has it from sources at motherboard makers that Intel will delay its mainstream desktop Core i5 platform (including Lynnfield procs and 5-series chipsets) from July to early September. A rumor with merit given DigiTimes’ proven sources within motherboard makers like ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI. The reason for the delay is to allow vendors to deplete 4-series inventories that have piled-up during the economic slow-down. Of course, if AMD or… well, AMD could muster the silicon to compete with Intel at the same price point then such a delay would not be possible. How much you say? DigiTimes has the Core i5 processors priced at 2.93GHz ($562), 2.8GHz ($284) and 2.66GHz ($196) when purchased in bulk.

Motorola’s Sawgrass, Android-powered Heron do the vertical slide onto AT&T?
Written by Admin on May 24, 2009 – 10:30 pm -The previously rumored Motorola portrait QWERTY slider Iron Man has popped up again, this time as the AT&T-bound Heron, with listed specs being a 2.8-inch touch screen, 3 megapixel camera with flash, aGPS, 3G, and a big red “subject to change” notice since the device has moved to (drumroll, please) Android OS. Planned availability is said to be November 2nd here, but we suspect these slides are a bit dated and that may ultimately be wholly off target. Also on the menu is another portrait slider, the Sawgrass. This one may in fact be Alexander, and if that’s the case, at least we’ve got a cleaner press shot to put on its tombstone. Then again, we hear from Boy Genius Report that it’s reincarnated under the name Somerset. The information you (probably) seek is in the gallery below.

Dell dumps Della, just wants to be friends
Written by Admin on May 22, 2009 – 10:30 pm -Looks like someone’s gonna have to explain why there’s a “no longer in a relationship” status update on her Facebook profile. Just ten or so days after Dell officially hooked up with its female counterpart Della, helping real womenfolk find computers that meet their recipe-finding, calorie-counting ways, she’s now been thrown the wayside and all mentions of her have been replaced with (or redirected to) the similar, yet decidely more androgynous “Lifestyle.” Last we heard, Della was sitting on the couch watching Notting Hill with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, crying softly to herself and wondering what other female stereotypes she can best beat with a dead horse.
