HP’s Mini 1101 up for order, customizations nowhere to be found
Written by Admin on May 31, 2009 – 1:30 pm -We know the Mini 1101 is the more business-centric of the new HP netbooks, but unless the company has a sudden change of heart, it looks like you’ll be getting the base configuration or nothing at all. Starting today, HP is enabling eager consumers to purchase one of the $329 machines, but the only “customization” options are external accessories and peripherals. Hit the read link to see if what’s offered fits your bill, and if not, the Mini 110 XP and Mini 110 Mi alternatives should be popping up soon.

NVIDIA GPU resurrected after 10 minutes at 425°F
Written by Admin on May 30, 2009 – 10:30 pm -We’ve seen some pretty weird stuff in our years on this planet — heck, we’ve revived our own drenched Sony DAP by burying it in rice for 48 hours — but this is easily one of the most bizarre gizmo resurrections we’ve ever come across. As the tale goes, one valiant NVIDIA GPU owner apparently bit on a myth which suggested that a pinch of time in the oven (quite literally, might we add) would repair faulty GPUs that were throwing up oodles of vertical lines. After purchasing another GPU to replace his ailing 8800GTX, he figured he had zilch to lose and gave it a shot; lo and behold, the temporary warmth seemingly melted the solder points and healed micro-fractures that were causing the unwanted lines. We’ve yet to hear how his attempt at returning the new GPU went, but hey, there’s always eBay. Give the read link a look if you’re still in disbelief.

Written by Admin on May 27, 2009 – 1:30 pm -mCubed’s RipNAS Statement may be unique, but it isn’t apt to be widely adopted — at least not with price points like this. Hailed as the first SSD-based CD ripping NAS device, the product is also available in a traditional HDD form, though both handle automatic ripping, NAS duties and media streaming. Within, you’ll find a dual-core Atom CPU, gigabit Ethernet, a TEAC DVD drive, four USB 2.0 sockets and a fanless design.
