Apple reveals top 20 free / paid iPhone apps, iFart Mobile only ranks 16th
Written by Admin on April 14, 2009 – 3:30 am -
To think, it’s only been three months since we talked about Apple’s iTunes store crossing the 500 million download threshold, and now it looks like the gang in Cupertino are gearing up to celebrate their 1 billionth app. To celebrate, the company’s released two lists showcasing the top 20 free and paid iPhone apps, respectively. Presuming these are in order (they’re certainly not alphabetical), that puts Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D for paid apps and Facebook for free apps. Interestingly, Crash shares with Super Monkey Ball the dubious honor of being the only two apps on the list at $5.99, the highest price here. Eight of the paid apps cost $0.99 apiece, and the rest fall somewhere in between. Check out both lists after the break.

Palm Pre spotted just minding its own business in San Fran?
Written by Admin on April 13, 2009 – 1:30 pm -We can’t vouch for the authenticity of these shots, but the fact that there’s fully five of them posted certainly lends some element of legitimacy. What’s more, the first half ‘09 window is still very much confirmed by Palm, so let’s be honest: there pretty much have to be Pres floating around in some circles at this point. We didn’t necessarily anticipate “some circles” to mean “two peeps chilling at San Francisco’s Bring Your Own Wheel race,” but hey, whatever works.

Western Digital 1TB DVR Expander pre-orders up at Amazon, Apricorn add-ons get a face lift
Written by Admin on April 12, 2009 – 10:30 pm -
We understand, you’re not ready to let go of the BSG season finale just yet even though Tiger and Phil are charging up the back nine at Augusta, but keeping a lot of HD on the DVR can fill up space quickly — which is where these two come in. Amazon is now taking pre-orders of the long-awaited 1TB edition of Western Digital’s TiVo compatible (or other eSATA enabled box) DVR Expander, although no ship date is listed, and Apricorn took our advice on its fugly 500GB, 1TB or 1.5TB sized boxes, giving them a sleek new look. It’s dual USB 2.0 / eSATA compatible, but not TiVo, so Scientific Atlanta 8300, DirecTV and DISH ViP owners can claim this one at $219 for the 1.5TB, while the WD will set you back $183.

Dream Cheeky’s USS Enterprise webcam exudes charm and class
Written by Admin on April 12, 2009 – 3:30 am -Now that it’s legal for George Takei to get married in Iowa, what better way to celebrate than by letting your “Trek flag” fly in your home or office? The USS Enterprise-themed USB webcam features an adjustable focus, and the red engine lights (or whatever they are) actually, you know, light up. For maximum realism, we guess. And the cable is adorned with the Star Fleet Insignia although, sadly, it will not function as a communicator. It is just a TV series, you know. No word on release date or price, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled. Read more »

Steve Jobs still involved in ‘key aspects’ of running Apple, testing out that iTablet you so desire?
Written by Admin on April 11, 2009 – 1:30 pm -According to those ever-quotable “people familiar with the matter,” Steve Jobs is still “closely involved” in “key aspects” of running Apple, reports the Wall Street Journal. While Tina Fey’s favorite keynote-giver has remained incognito ever since he took a medical leave in January, the WSJ has learned that he’s been working hard from home, involved in strategy and key products — including some nitty gritty of the new interface elements in iPhone 3.0. The article also makes mention of a jumbo-sized iPod touch of sorts (an iTablet, if you will), but it’s hard to tell if that word is from these same people familiar with the matter, or if the WSJ is just picking up that perennial rumor from less reputable sources. Apple’s of course remaining tight-lipped, merely stating that “Steve continues to look forward to returning to Apple at the end of June.” All we know is that we’re looking forward to putting all this rampant speculation behind us, and an Apple-involved Steve seems like a great step in that direction.
