Written by Admin on March 27, 2009 – 11:29 pm -

Waseda University’s heartbeat compensation robot be stills our hearts

Written by Admin on March 27, 2009 – 4:30 am -

Look closely. No, closer. See that slab of pink meat in the middle of Waseda University’s surgical robot? That’s a heart… now imagine it’s your heart. Don’t worry, if you ever do pit flesh-to-servo against this device, it’ll likely be saving your life during a coronary bypass. After making a small incision, the robot compensates for the natural shake and movement of the organ caused by heartbeats so that surgery can proceed as if the organ is still. That little trick could enable minimally invasive, endoscopic heart surgeries in the future — no need to crack open the chest cavity. Amazing stuff. See a close-up after the break. You: it’s what’s for dinner. Read more »

Sony’s mylo 2 — wait, you do remember what this thing is, right? — could be headed for the grave… as if it wasn’t already there in the minds of most. After Sony hacked a hundred bucks from the asking price during the run-up to Holiday Season 2008, we heard absolutely nothing further until now. Nokia E71x misses rumored launch date on AT&T

Written by Admin on March 25, 2009 – 11:30 pm -

First we had a solid rumor that the long-awaited Nokia E71x would finally go on sale come March 24th, but that day — yesterday — sadly came and went without a single handset hitting shelves. The latest intel suggests that a last-minute bug discovered in the phone’s email app was the monkey wrench that brought the whole Rube Goldberg machine of a launch process to its knees, and sadly, the thousands of units already produced are just going to sit around while they await a firmware update — an update that’s several weeks out, the story goes. Though the idea of a subsidized E71 that carries over most of the original’s openness and throws in a dose of S60 3.2 for good measure is an enticing idea indeed, the unlocked models have been around since July of last year, so the scary question becomes: will this product still relevant by the time AT&T finally manages to get it out the door?
