Creative quietly intros MovieWorks HD iPod dock
Written by Admin on February 21, 2009 – 11:30 pm -Not that Creative hasn’t dabbled in the HD iPod dock arena before, but it’s been awhile since the company has introduced a new one. Quietly, secretly, the outfit has pushed a fresh one out in the Cambridge Soundworks line, and it’s satisfactorily titled MovieWorks HD. The device does about what you’d expect by outputting iPod video and audio (via HDMI) onto one’s TV and / or sound system, though Creative points out that this one is the only one with its own Xtreme Fidelity, X-Fi Crystallize and X-Fi CMSS-3D technology — so yeah, take that for whatever it’s worth. Those who detest cables can also snag the optional wireless receiver, but first you’ll need to pony up $249.99 for the dock itself.

Ask Engadget: Best rugged, waterproof point-and-shoot camera?
Written by Admin on February 21, 2009 – 4:30 am -
In the spirit of winter, we felt that Ben’s recent question about a camera fit for the slopes was just perfect. And if you’d like to toss out a warm and fuzzy question of your own, just send one to ask at engadget dawt com and keep tuning in.
“I’m going skiing over spring break, and I’ve been reading a lot on some of the newer waterproof, rugged cameras. There are just so many out there to choose from, I was wondering what you guys thought about some of the better ones.”

Harmony 1100 remote review: a bigger screen isn’t always better
Written by Admin on February 20, 2009 – 2:30 pm -Like a skeleton in the closet or a beating heart in the floorboards, many home theater enthusiasts are cursed by a barrage of remote controls, each with different shapes, sizes, and battery demands. Cheap multi-device programmable remotes help, but Logitech’s Harmony line has for years been something of a savior, elegantly hiding all your devices behind simple activities like “Watch TV” or “Play a CD.” The Harmony 1100 is the latest to join the lineup, and is in many ways the most elegant to look at and to hold. Sadly, though, it’s far from the most intuitive to use, and so is not exactly our favorite.

How would you change 3M’s MPro110 pocket projector?
Written by Admin on February 19, 2009 – 11:30 pm -
The pico projector market has practically exploded over the past six months or so, but all the while it was 3M’s MPro110 leading the charge. Given that you’ve now had a few months to toy with it, we’re wondering if this thing really has lived up to the hype. Is having a projector in your pocket as awesome as advertised? Is the image quality sufficient for impromptu wall splashings? Would you recommend holding off for round two? We have all ideas we’ll hear tons of “make it brighter!” and “where’s the 1080p version?” type comments, but if you have something else besides that to add, then — by all means — drop some knowledge on us in comments below. Samsung’s pricey wall of prototype OmniaHDs at MWC 2009
Written by Admin on February 19, 2009 – 4:30 am -
Alright, look, Samsung, this is excessive. All we want is one OmniaHD — one, for cryin’ out loud — and here you go showing off your whole frickin’ wall of ‘em. We think the “!” shape these 3.7-inch OLEDs form is a particularly appropriate choice to represent the reaction the OmniaHD’s display has garnered from passers-by this week.

Samsung WMG100 brings OmniaHD video to the television, via WiFi
Written by Admin on February 18, 2009 – 2:30 pm -Just how the Samsung OmniaHD’s video could reach directly from phone to TV screen was a bit of a mystery until the Engadget Spanish crew spotted the WMG100. Don’t already own one of Samsung’s high end sets with WiFi and DLNA built in? This dongle bridges the gap with all the necessary tech built in, pushing a max 480p (whether HD streaming to other devices from the OmniaHD will work is unknown) from its mini HDMI or component outputs for around €160 ($200), and is already available in Korea with a European debut planned for this spring. The idea that we’d ever get tired of watching that sweet AMOLED display is a bit of a reach, but just in case check out the gallery for some hands on pics.

Sidekick 2009 caught strutting its stuff in the wild
Written by Admin on February 17, 2009 – 11:30 pm -We still don’t know whether to call it the Sidekick 2009 or the Sidekick Blade, but either way, T-Mobile’s upcoming hiptop has finally been caught on camera, looking just as it did in a survey from last month and later via render. Unfortunately, we can’t glean any specs from the image, but the aforementioned questionnaire listed 3G, a 3.2-inch WVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, and GPS with turn-by-turn navigation. Alright, Danger, you’ve made us believers — now give us some official press shots to gaze upon lovingly. Read more »

Nokia N86 hands-on
Written by Admin on February 17, 2009 – 4:30 am -
We just messed around with Nokia’s new N86, and while the form factor and feel of the device seem a little last-gen, there’s no denying the camera’s quality. Some of the soft button the face of the phone are a little difficult for our large fingers to press, but the d-pad is pure quality, as is the generic-looking numeric keypad — T9ers rejoice. In traditional N-series fashion, the slide mechanism is practically perfect, with a meaty, satisfying and easy motion to it, and the general feel of the device, including the seamless glossy front, screams quality. The camera we played with seemed a little glitchy in operation — it’s still pre-production — but the images were excellent. The LED flash won’t be able to handle a large dimly lit room, but can do close-quarters indoors shots just fine, and should match up well with other high resolution shooters in the outdoor arena. We wouldn’t say we were blown away by the OLED screen, but it might not have been set at full brightness — it’s crisp, but not necessarily vibrant. Overall it’s a “nice” handset, but somehow 8 megapixels alone doesn’t seem to justify another go at this fairly dated and chubby N-series form factor — but maybe that’s just us.

Mitsubishi unveils prototype in-dash Blu-ray player
Written by Admin on February 16, 2009 – 2:30 pm -Difficult though it may be to believe, Panasonic showcased a conceptual in-dash BD deck of its own back in October of 2007. Obviously, nothing has really come of that, so Mitsubishi’s stepping in with a prototype of its own. It’s stated that the player has only a third of the volume compared to a traditional “home Blu-ray player,” with it somehow being able to slip into a standard single-DIN opening. Better still, we’re told that the final unit — which is slated to hit production during fiscal year 2009 — could also boast a mobile TV tuner in select markets, giving us even more reason to not pay attention to pedestrians, road signs and stop lights while taking that Sunday cruise. Keepin’ it real fake, part CLXXXIV: NOKLA E81 is a dash of this, a dash of that
Written by Admin on February 15, 2009 – 11:30 pm -No, friends — what you see above isn’t a poor spy spot of an unannounced handset sure to be unveiled in just hours at Mobile World Congress. And yes, that’s despite the fact that there is still room for an E81 in Nokia’s ever-expanding lineup. In reality, this shoddy impostor is some sort of NOKLA, which appears to be a distasteful combination of XpressMusic, the N79 and the 6208 classic (among others, we imagine). The good news is that it sports dual SIM slots, a quad-band GSM radio and a 2.8-inch touchscreen. The bad worse news is that you probably won’t even be able to read the menus after dropping $86.50 and bringing this home. Read more »
